Filters
Air filters are designed to remove any solid particles carried in the air.
Vacuum pumps and blowers are designed to process air, either by compressing it or decreasing the pressure, and air filters are a critical part of this process. Air contaminated with dust or any solid particles impacts directly on the performance, wear and life span of a vacuum pump or blower. The solids in the air create a "grinding paste" in the moving parts of a pump which is not dissimilar to sand paper, and this of course causes premature failure of those components affected.
Oil separators have a different role to that of an air filter. The oils separator element is used in oil flooded pumps, and they have a two fold duty, firstly to separate the air from the oil after the air has been processed by the pump, the oil is recirculated, and oil free air can be discharged to atmosphere.
The separator element will also remove solid particles from the oil.
